Cementing himself as one of the leading older horses in the world, Danjer posted a head victory in the $200,000 All American Gold Cup (G1) at Ruidoso Downs on September 6.

It is his second Grade 1 win and his third graded stakes win in as many starts for 2021.

Ridden by Cody Smith, the 5-year-old gelding made a late rush to overtake Mi Amor Secreto in the final strides of the 440-yard test. He stopped the clock in :21.308 for a 97 speed index and a winning check worth $91,057.

Powerful Favorite was third, followed by KJ Mucho Macho Man, A Dangerous Flash, Mitey Political and Perrys Double Down.

Danjer races for his breeder and trainer, Dean Frey, who partners on the horse with Downtime Enterprises LLC and Billy G. Smith. He has a career record of 13 wins from 23 starts and earnings of $1,184,827.

The gelding last year was second in the All American Gold Cup, and then won both the Downs at Albuquerque Championship (G1) and Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1) on his way to being named the sport’s champion aged horse and champion aged gelding.

Earlier this year, he was second in the Leo Stakes (G1), won the Debbie Schauf Remington Park Invitational Championship Stakes (G1) and the Bank of America Canterbury Championship Challenge (G3), which qualifies him to attempt for a repeat win in the October 23 Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1).

Danjer is sired by FDD Dynasty and is out of the Take Off Jess mare Shez Jess Toxic.
