In January 1979, a sorrel filly was foaled, a daughter of Dash For Cash and Dee Mount, a daughter of the Thoroughbred stallion Killoqua. She grew and played on the famous White Oaks Ranch in California owned by her breeder, the late Muriel Hyland, mother of AQHA Past President Ginger Hyland.
In August 1980, a teenaged Windi Phillips bought the yearling for $50,000 and put her in race training with Hall of Famer C.W. “Bubba” Cascio, who had trained her sire.
Dashingly lived up to the promise, breaking her maiden on her first outing May 27, 1981, at Los Alamitos, and she went on to accrue a lifetime record of 18 wins in 25 starts, with career earnings of $1,754,323. Dashingly was the leading money-earning mare for 24 years, until world champion Blues Girl Too broke her record in 2007.
“Dashingly was a big, stout mare, stood about 16-1 hands, weighed about 1,250 pounds, had a lot of stay (stamina) in her,” Cascio said. “And she was a good filly, had a good mind, a good temperament, just like ol’ Dash (For Cash, her sire). You could have put a kid up on her and led her around if you wanted to. She never did cause any problems anywhere.”
Her final owner, J. Baxter Brinkmann of Dallas, bought her in 1993. “We at the Brinkmann Ranch thought what better way to speed up our breeding program than to purchase one of the greatest mares ever to run,” Brinkmann said.
Dashingly produced 13 foals that earned $64,657 on the track. Nine of them were starters, and seven of them were winners. Her leading money-earner was Dashinglys Dream, 1994 mare by Runaway Winner. Her last foal, Dashinglys Rose by Chicks Beduino, was foaled in 2002.
Brinkmann Ranch and American Quarter Horse racing lost the mare and her top foal, Dashinglys Dream, in 2006.
Dashingly was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2014.
