James G. Hall

First treasurer of AQHA and husband of Anne Burnett of the 6666 Ranch, James Goodwin Hall had an interesting life.

Before AQHA and the war, Hall made a name for himself in New York City, owning a seat on the New York Stock Exchange.  He was involved in show and jumping horses and resided at his Long Island estate.

Hall was living and working in New York when he met Burnett.  The couple were married in 1932 and moved to Fort Worth, Texas.  Hall grew fond of the Burnett horses and started recording the pedigrees of many of them.

He also produced several color motion pictures on many of the famous early quarter-type horses in the Southwest.

This fondness led Hall to get involved with the formation of AQHA.  He and his wife hosted a dinner party in March 1940.  Those invited were Robert Denhardt, W. B. Warren, J. H. Minnick, Dan and Jack Casement, and Jack Hutchins, among others.  The official meeting was the following day, and Hall was elected treasurer.

He did more than keep financial records for AQHA.  Hall was instrumental in gaining recognition for the Quarter Horse as a breed from the National Stallion Board in 1942.

Hall died in 1952 at 56 and was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 1985.
