The American Quarter Horse Journal recently brought home several top awards from the 2023 Livestock Publications Council writing, photography, illustration and design awards contest. Chief among those is the General Excellence Publication award.
Published since 1948 and celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, the Journal is one of the most respected and widely circulated magazines in the equine industry. It is a lifestyle publication that celebrates the American Quarter Horse lifestyle with amazing photography infused with well-crafted features on the people, horses and traditions that make our breed, members and industry unique.
Other LPC awards captured by the Journal include the following:

First and second place in Single Article Layout and Design, with “Ranching on the Rocks,” a story about the Best Remuda Award-winning O RO Ranch designed by David Brown, and “A Shining Jewel,” a story about the International Best Remuda Award winner Fazenda Gruta Azul designed by Clint Swearingen.

First and second place in Covers for the 2022 November-December and August issues, featuring photography by Bee Silva.

The Journal swept the Editorial Photography category, with a first-place finish for “Ranching on the Rocks” by Chris Dickinson and a tie for second between “Chuckwagon Chef” by Jim Jennings and “Ranching on the Rocks” by Chris Dickinson.

Another sweep came in the “Single Photo or Graphic” division, with a first-place finish for “Binder Twine” and second place for “the Jogger,” both illustrated by Jean Abernethy, and an honorable mention for the “Keep Pedaling” illustration by Frederick Stivers.

A tie for second in the Feature or Human Interest Story division for “Chuckwagons and Sour Dough” by Jim Jennings.
