Mr Michel, a gelded son of the Tempting Dash stallion Kiss My Hocks and the fastest qualifier, sprinted to a 1 1/4-length win in Wednesday's $108,800 Leader of the Class Sale Futurity (R) at Indiana Grand.

Prepped by Claudio Barraza for owner Alberto Valadez and sent to post as the 1-2 choice in the field of 10 2-year-olds, Mr Michel covered 350 yards in :17.872. Erik Esqueda rode the Indiana-bred gelding.

"He broke super well," said Esqueda, who also rode Mr Michel in the gelding's half-length win in the first of two trials on August 25. "He gained the lead early and finished really strong."

The Leader of the Class Sale Futurity was restricted to juveniles who passed through last year's Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana Speed Sale, and Mr Michel was a $17,500 purchase by Barraza at the sale. The gelding is out of Lovemelikethat, a homebred 13-year-old daughter of the Chicks Beduino stallion Likenothinyoueversaw who won three stakes in Indiana from 2010-11, including the 2010 Miss Roxie Little Futurity (R).

Mr Michel was winning for the third time in five starts, and the $59,840 winner's share of the purse from his first stakes score increased his bankroll to $93,050.

Leaving With Fire finished second and was followed by Knockout Swing, My Royal Candy, Keens Blood Legacy, Delreys Wagon Train, My Royal Casino, Encores Bright Image, Feature Miss Wagon, and Princess Beach.
