The Louisiana Gaming Control Board has approved the sale of Louisiana Downs in Bossier City from Caesars Entertainment Inc. to Rubico Acquisition Corp.

The Louisiana Racing Commission still needs to approve the $22 million sale at its meeting on Tuesday.

According to a report in the Daily Jefferson County Union, Rubico plans to add games and concessions to the casino at Louisiana Downs. Under the terms of the sale, it will be required to keep the racetrack open.

“I really believe if this sale didn't go through Caesars would ultimately close the facility," said Gaming Control Board chairman Ronnie Johns. "The company just isn't interested in operating a horse racetrack.”

Louisiana Downs opens its winter Quarter Horse meet on January 10. The 46-day season runs through April 7.
