AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder of the Year

The AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding family-owned and family daily-managed cattle ranch that embodies the spirit of the Ranching Heritage Breeder program, which includes the promotion of the ranching way of life in addition to producing top quality ranch horses. This award is for Ranching Heritage Breeders by Ranching Heritage Breeders since only fellow Ranching Heritage Breeders can nominate. The winner is selected by a panel of members from the AQHA Ranching Committee with final approval by the AQHA Executive Committee.  

1. Nominations will be judged on:

History of the ranch – family-owned and operated, and involvement

Participation as an AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder

  • Number of years as an RHB

  • Marketing of foals and older horses as being eligible for the Ranching Heritage Challenge

  • Exhibiting in Ranching Heritage Challenges and other ranch/stock horse association events

  • Support of Young Horse Development program through donation or offering yearlings for sale to youth

  • Promotion of Ranching Heritage-bred horses among other performance events – rodeo, 4-H, ranch rodeos, barrel racing, roping, etc.

Contributions to AQHA – AQHA membership history, current member of Ranching Heritage Breeders, consecutive and/or cumulative breeder awards

Animal Welfare – supports AQHA’s animal welfare statements, low stress and humane handling/training techniques

Marketing Innovativeness – Website for marketing, production sales, presence on social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)

Cattle Association Involvement – membership/participation in regional, state/provincial or national cattle organizations, awards earned

 

2. Only current Ranching Heritage Breeders can nominate a fellow RHB member and only an AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder is eligible to receive the award. Current members of AQHA Ranching Committee and past Best Remuda winners are not eligible. Ranching Heritage Breeders cannot nominate themselves.

 

3. Award to be presented at 2024 AQHA Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.
