Each year, the American Quarter Horse Association honors breeders who have dedicated their livelihoods to maintaining the integrity of the American Quarter Horse breed. These horsemen, horsewomen and their families see their biggest accomplishments and proudest moments in the horses they breed.
AQHA is honored to recognize 2022 AQHA Legacy Breeders Fred and Clara Wilson of Newcastle, Wyoming.
Clown Hancock was the horse that started it all. They used him as a breeding stallion whose offspring went on to win nearly 170 AQHA points. Fred and Clara knew he was a versatile horse and used him in team roping, western pleasure, working cow horse and pole bending. Fred was elected to the AQHA Board of Directors in 1972 and elevated to director-at-large. Clara has been able to compete in all facets of the American Quarter Horse industry. Clara and Wilson have now been inducted into the Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame.
