The Rainbow Derby (G1), Rainbow Futurity (G1) and Rainbow Oaks run this past weekend at Ruidoso Downs caused some big changes in the latest AQHA Racing National Polls with a new face at the top of the 2-year-old rankings and several horses making upward moves in the older-horse poll.

Whitmire Ranch’s Whistle Stop Cafe sprinted to the top of the juvenile poll after posting a three-quarter-length win in the $1 million Rainbow Futurity on July 19. The gray daughter of Freighttrain B is undefeated in four starts and pushed her earnings to $470,186.

The previously undefeated and previously No. 1-ranked Cyber Monday dropped to the second spot in the rankings, after finishing fourth in the Rainbow.

For The Irony moved into a tie for No. 7 after being unranked in the previous poll. The Valiant Hero gelding won the $100,000 Rainbow Juvenile Stakes on July 19 to push his record to a perfect 4-for-4 on the year.

In the older-horse poll, Hotsempting earned the No. 1 spot for the second consecutive time, despite running second by a head in the $710,414 Rainbow Derby on July 18. The winner of that race, Christina Robinson’s CERs Final Try, jumped to No. 2 in the poll after being at No. 10 in the last rankings. The One Dashing Eagle gelding ran second to Hotsempting earlier in the year in the $887,266 Ruidoso Derby (G1).

Other notable movers in the older-horse poll include Love Is Everything V, who climbed from No. 6 to No. 4 after winning the $100,000 Rainbow Invitational Stakes on July 18, and Ratification, who debuted at No. 6 after capturing the $315,739 Rainbow Oaks, also on July 18.

The next set of polls will be released after the trials for the All American Derby (G1) and All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs in August.

The integrity of American Quarter Horse racing is of utmost importance to AQHA.
