Fifty 3-year-olds, headed by multiple stakes winner For The Irony, are entered in Monday’s 350-yard AQRA Turf Paradise Open Spring Derby trials at Turf Paradise.

For The Irony will make his sophomore season debut from post 10 in the second of five trials. A son of Valiant Hero trained by Eric Valenzuela for owner Diamond Racing Stables, the undefeated black gelding earned $93,600 from four races at Ruidoso Downs last summer, and his four wins included a head victory in the 350-yard, $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational Stakes, and a 1 1/4-length score in the 400-yard, $100,000 Rainbow Juvenile Invitational Stakes.

Adrian Ramos has been named to ride For The Irony, whose nine opponents in the second heat include Ricardo M. Ramirez’s AJs On Time. A sorrel son of world champion Apollitical Jess, the gelding has banked $73,963 from eight outs, and his record includes a second-place finish, a nose behind winner Speed Dynasty, in last year’s 400-yard, $256,000 La Fiesta Futurity at Albuquerque Downs.

AJs On Time drew post 9 and will be ridden by Luis A. Valenzuela for trainer Jesus Olivas-Valenzuela.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the April 19, $15,000-added AQRA Turf Paradise Open Spring Derby final.
