Texas horseman Jose Ernesto Guzman passed away August 30.

Longtime Texas horseman Jose Ernesto Guzman, 60, passed way in Dallas, Texas, on Monday, August 30, 2021.

Funeral services are set for Thursday, September 9, at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral Guadalupe Downtown Dallas Catholic Church on 2215 Ross Avenue in Dallas (75201). Burial will be at noon in the New Hope Memorial Cemetery in Sunnyvale, Texas.

Visitation will be held at the New Hope Funeral Home, 500 East Hwy 80, Sunnyvale, Texas 75182 from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 8.

Jose Ernesto Guzman was born November 7, 1960, in Miguel Auza, Zacatecas to Delfino Guzman Martinez and Paula Ramirez Zavala. 

Jose’s interest were horse racing and recently began breeding Quarter Horses foals to raise and sell. He loved visiting his Ranch in Oklahoma. He enjoyed spending time at the casinos with his beloved wife Josefina. He loved being with his family and friends.

Jose was an entrepreneur who strove for the best. He was a proud business owner of a construction company he built from the ground up and ran for more than 30 years.

In the horse racing industry, he won the most prestigious Quarter Horse race in the world, the All American Futurity in 2019 with Mr Jess Jenkins. He won numerous other stake races at different racetracks around the United States. He was a member of AQHA, TQHA, LQHBA and OQHRA.

According to Equibase stats, on his own Jose won 95 races with earners of more than $3.9 million. He also raced numerous horses with partners, including Mr Jess Jenkins.

In addition to Mr Jess Jenkins, Jose campaigned multiple Grade 1-placed Instygator ($895,907), fastest qualifier for the Grade 1 All American Derby to be run Sunday at Ruidoso Downs; Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity (RG1) winner Eye Work For You ($539,612), LQHBA Million Futurity winner JLS Dashin And Zoomin ($467,710) and Heritage Place Derby(G3) Derby winner PYC Fun N Fancy ($42,894), to name only a few.

He is survived by his loving wife Josefina Garcia of Dallas, daughters Cristina Guzman, Rosalinda Robles Lleny Guzman, Mayra Guzman Garcia, Maria Ceron, Guadalupe Guzman and son Ernesto Guzman; grandchildren, Angel Ray Rodriguez, Mariah Nicole Rodriguez, Haylee Rodriguez, Jenny Ellie Zuniga, Anali Triana, Yanni Haziel Triana, Juan Triana, Jackie Ortiz, Alexander Ortiz, Elizabeth Ortiz, Audrey Isabel Ceron, Alina Illeana Ceron, Mia Najera, Isabela Amelia Guzman, Daniel Josiah Robles and Luna Amirah Robles; sisters Maria Santos Guzman, Silvia Guzman, Guadalupe Guzman, Maria Gomez; brothers Ezequiel Guzman, Francisco Javier Guzman, Delfino Guzman and Luis Guzman.
