A field of eight state-bred distaffers, topped by 3-2 morning-line favorite Sweet Bru, has been entered in Saturday's 350-yard, $25,000 Party Girl Stakes (R) at Louisiana Downs.

Trained by Gary Shane Mason for owner Jose Ortiz, Sweet Bru has won eight of 21 races, including two of three at Louisiana Downs, and she has earned $136,505. She was the Louisiana QHBA champion aged mare in 2017.

“She ran well in her stakes last year in Louisiana,” said Mason. “Unfortunately, in her final start of the year at Evangeline Downs, she stumbled badly out of the gate. She pretty much landed on her nose and (jockey) Filiberto (Maldonado) did not pressure her after that start.”

Sweet Bru is a 6-year-old daughter of Embrujo Fg, and her 2018 resume included a head victory in the 250-yard Lakeview Dash Stakes at Fair Grounds. The mare drew post 7 and will again be ridden by Floriberto Maldonado.
The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:
Watergirl B (Gilbert Ortiz), 12-1
Spit in My Corona (Guadalupe Lucio, Jr.), 5-1
Fastdashing Lassie (David Alvarez), 3-1
Tf Ms Perrys Runaway (Bryan Candanosa), 10-1
Leavin at Six (Rolando Cabrera), 6-1
Monees Fast Cash (Antonio Alberto), 15-1
Sweet Bru (Floriberto Maldonado), 3-2
Jess a Corona Baby (Eddi Martinez), 12-1

Also on Saturday, Fast N Famous Eagle will be making his second start of the season in the 350-yard, $15,000 Swift Stakes.

A 6-year-old One Famous Eagle stallion owned and trained by Joe M. Davis, Fast N Famous Eagle made his 2019 debut with a neck victory in the 250-yard, $15,000 Harrah's Dash Stakes on January 5.

“This horse is even better at 350-yards, so he should do well Saturday,” said Davis.

Fast N Famous Eagle drew the rail post and will be ridden by Everardo Rodriguez.

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:
Fast N Famous Eagle (Everardo Rodriguez), 8-5
Mariachy King (Noe Castaneda), 4-1
Wrs Quick Jess (Gilbert Ortiz), 20-1
Sweet Merlot (Cesar Esqueda), 15-1
Sixes Flash (Rolando Cabrera), 8-1
