LG Racing LLC's Royal Post on Sunday set the fastest qualifying time to the November 24, $175,000-added New Mexico Classics Derby (RG2) for state-bred sophomores.

At Zia Park, Royal Post won the last of three trials by a half of a length from second-fastest qualifier Drest For Success, covering 400 yards in :19.774. Jacob Enriquez rode the daughter of Eye Am King for trainer Lonnie Vaughn.

Royal Post was bred by Mac and Janis Murray's MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico, and she was a $30,000 yearling purchase at the 2022 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. The filly is out of Bigg Alice, a winning homebred daughter of Big Daddy Cartel and champion Alice K White and a half sister to '15 champion 3-year-old filly Astica.

Royal Post was winning for the second time in 13 races and increasing her earnings to $60,591, of which $40,071 has been banked from eight starts this season. The filly's record includes a second-place finish in last year's New Mexico State Fair Juvenile Stakes (R) at Albuquerque Downs, and she was a finalist in this year's Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park.
