West Texas Derby Qualifiers

Super Champion Inc.'s Muy Peligrosito, a multiple stakes winning son of One Fabulous Eagle trained by Eric Valenzuela, is the fastest qualifier to the February 5, $172,200 West Texas Derby (G3).

Racing in the fifth of six trials at Sunland Park on Friday, Muy Pelegrosito defeated third-fastest qualifier Jess Kant Catch Me by one length while covering 400 yards in :19.423. Adrian Ramos rode the gelding.

Muy Peligrosito was bred in Mexico by Darling Farms and Jaime Gomez, and he has won his last four starts, including the September 6, 440-yard All American Juvenile Stakes at Ruidoso Downs, and the December 5, 440-yard Southwest Juvenile Championship Stakes (G2) at Zia Park. All told, the gelding has won four of five outs and has earned $150,540.

Second-fastest qualifier Makin A Candy Run made his sophomore season debut with a half-length victory in his trial. Ridden by Jaime Leos for owner Jorge Aldavaz and trainer Karina Aldavaz, the gelded son of Jess Good Candy stopped the timer in :19.554 while recording his second win in six starts and boosting his bankroll to $27,330.

Makin A Candy Run was bred in Oklahoma by PV Quarter Horse Farms LLC, and he was a $37,000 purchase at the 2020 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
